We are a group of like minded people with an interest in Family & Local History, based in Annfield Plain but covering the history of the whole of North West Durham.
The Society was formed in 2000 and have a small but thriving group. Over the years we purchased the local church records on microfilm and this year purchased following years: 1914 - 1922 7 1935 - 1970 of the Stanley News. The Society also has two film readers available in the Annfield Plain Library, during library opening hours.
There is an ongoing project, being conducted by members of the Society, to record and transcribe the registers and headstones in some of the local churches. Other projects for include the Stanley New Cemetery and the Stanley News. We will also be providing projects to coincide with with the centenary of the First World War.
The Society meets the third Tuesday in March, July, September and December at 11am, in Annfield Plain Library.
Help sessions are also provided in three of the local libraries:
Annfield Plain every Monday 1.30 - 3.30, tea and coffee is available at 25p per cup.
Consett Library the first Friday of the month 9.30-11.30 (except January)
Stanley Library the third Friday of the month 10-12 (except December)
